Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Sociology at the University of Missouri. Our department, which was established in 1900, includes diverse faculty who are recognized nationally and internationally for their research, teaching, and service. We serve approximately 250 undergraduates and 50 graduate students from all over the world. Department faculty serve on national and international editorial boards and many are award-winning instructors. The University of Missouri is the oldest public land grant institution west of the Mississippi, a member of the AAU, and in the highest category of research universities. Our department takes pride in offering a friendly, welcoming place for open and critical examination of the full range of social issues and perspectives.
